Our Scripture reading today is Nehemiah 6:1-3.
Verse 3, "And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?"
Nehemiah was focused on rebuilding the walls. A plan was in place and the work was well underway. Not everyone was interested in this rebuild. The people that were opposed to the project started to challenge Nehemiah and his motives. These challenges were none other than distractions. Our enemy today is all about distractions. As we strive to serve the Lord, we can expect Satan to do everything he can to discourage and distract us from being faithful. He hates every work accomplished for the Lord.
We learn from Nehemiah the importance of being persistent to the task God has called us to do. Four attempts were made to stop the building. Four times, Nehemiah could have put a pause to the work, but instead, he ignored the distractions and kept on building. Discernment gave Nehemiah focus; he knew what God wanted him to be doing and he did it. Every child of God has been called to serve and live for Him. What has God called you to do? Have you been distracted to the point of not serving God? It is time by God's grace to overcome the distractions and get back on the wall!
