Verse 14, "Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters."
The overall theme of the Psalmist prayer is deliverance. There is no way to lift himself up and out of the mire. He is looking for help from above in his time of need. While salvation delivers us from eternal death in hell, we are still in need of daily deliverance from the temptation of the devil and his demons. 2 Corinthians 1:10, "Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;"
The Lord Jesus admonished us to pray the same way in Matthew 6:13, "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen." I am thankful that God continues to provide deliverance to those who diligently seek Him for it. We are not strong enough and we never will be to deliver ourselves from temptation or bitterness. Our loving heavenly Father has given us His Spirit to daily deliver us from every sticky mess that Satan desires to use against us. Galatians 1:4, "Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:"
