Our Scripture reading today is Luke 12:13-21.
Verse 15, "And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth."
A warning is given in this passage of Scripture about allowing our possessions to control us to the point where we never have enough. I am sure you are well aware of the fact that everything you have is a gift from our Heavenly Father. James 1:17, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." God has given us everything and that includes the life that we are living. He knows exactly what we need and don't need.
The cure for covetousness is contentment. 1 Timothy 6:6, "But godliness with contentment is great gain." Now, that is the gain we should be striving to obtain! There are more blessings that come from living in godliness and contentment. We are bringing more glory to our God and we are not allowing the allurements of the world to overrun us. This, my brothers and sisters is gain. My daily concern should not be what can I get out of it, but how can I glorify God more than yesterday.
