Our Scripture reading today is Psalm 61:1-4.
Verse 4, "I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah."
If you have ever watched baby chicks for any length of time, you know that they are drawn to the wings of their mother. These wings provide warmth, protection and shelter. They are, as the Psalmist writes, a covert.
There is an obvious comparison and conclusion. We are in great need of being in the covert of our Heavenly Father's arms. Psalm 17:8, "Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings," Psalm 36:7, "How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings." We can trust Him to faithfully protect and provide for us. The obvious conclusion is the baby chicks need to be close to their mother for the security she willing provides. How close are you to God? Is reading His Word a priority every day? If not, it is impossible to be very close to Him. He has revealed much of what He wants us to know about Him in His Word. Take some extra time today to read the Word of God asking God to speak to you and draw you closer to Him.
