Our Scripture reading today is Ephesians 4:20-24.
Verse 22, "That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;"
The old man is who we were before we came to Jesus Christ for forgiveness and salvation. The word, "conversation", refers to our conduct and character. The Apostle Paul is saying we are to take off the old man like we do our dirty clothes. No one likes to be wearing muddy clothes for an extended period of time. Can you imagine a prisoner being released from prison and continuing to wear the clothes he or she wore in prison?
Whether we are changing our dirty clothes or prison clothes, there is a transformation that takes place in our attitude when clean or new clothes are put on. Our thought process always changes our behaviour. We no longer have to live under the control of the devil, the world, or our flesh. Romans 6:6, "Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin." It might be you are walking around today in some spiritually dirty clothes. Stop listening to the enemy and take those off and out on some clean ones. This will renew your mind and re-focus your attention to our Lord and Saviour!
