Our Scripture reading today is 1 Peter 4:12-16.
Verse 16, "Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf."
It is what we were created to do...bring glory to our God! 1 Corinthians 10:31, "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." Our greatest purpose for existence is to bring God the glory He alone is worthy of. Our text verse is challenging in that we should glorify God when suffering comes. This suffering can be a form of persecution for our faith. Have you experienced this? We know that many born again believers have and are continuing face suffering simply because of their identification with Jesus Christ. The Apostle Peter says this is not a time to be ashamed, but a time to glorify God.
As we draw closer and closer to the return of Jesus Christ, it is quite possible that more and more suffering will occur. Are we willing to bring glory to God if it takes suffering? Are we willing to bring glory to God if it means losing a job? These are questions of love. How much do we really love God? I am not questioning if you love God, but I am reminding you that your love for God is demonstrated by keeping His commandments. One of those commandments is to bring glory to God. Take a moment this morning and thank Him for your salvation and security in Him. Ask Him for more opportunities to bring Him glory.
