Our Scripture reading today is Luke 12:13-15.

Verse 15, "And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth."

Just last night on my way home from RU, I was listening to Pastor Adrian Rogers.  The sermon, at least the part I heard, was about covetousness and how it leads to so many other sins.  The Lord Jesus is presented with a family disagreement over how the inheritance was being divided.  I guess some things never change.  He warns not only the man who came to Him, but everyone around Him about the crippling sin of covetousness.

We are all in some way under the attack of covetousness.  “Great possessions are generally accompanied with pride, idleness, and luxury; and these are the greatest enemies to salvation.” (Clarke)  It is imperative that we are thankful for what God has provided us and we not allow covetousness to ruin our lives.
