Our Scripture reading today is Galatians 6:1-3.

Verse 2, "Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ."

There are a couple assumptions that can be made when reading this verse.  The first is that we all have burdens that we are attempting to carry.  The second is that we should not carry them alone.  “Notice the assumption which lies behind this command, namely that we all have burdens and that God does not mean us to carry them alone.” (Stott)  I am not sure exactly how it works, but I do know that when we help others with their burdens, ours seem to be lightened and in some cases go away.

We are not to use this verse in expecting others to help us with our burdens.  That is self-focused way of thinking, and will always leads to pride, frustration, discouragement, and depression.  The command is simple.  Look to be a blessing to a brother or sister by helping to lighten his or her load.  It isn’t complicated, and it doesn’t take a lot of effort on our part.  Be willing to bear a burden and bear it.  God will empower us to accomplish this task.
