Our Scripture reading today is Titus 2:11-14
Verse 13, "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;"
In each generation since the Lord Jesus returned to Heaven, Christians have been awaiting His soon return. Jesus told His disciples in John 14:3, "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also." We must remember that our definition of soon does not always match God's definition. Keep in mind what Peter wrote in 2 Peter 3:8, "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."
Our text this morning tells us that we too should be looking for the return of Jesus Christ. While no man knows the hour, we can and should be ready. The word, "looking", in verse 13 of Titus 2 means to expect the fulfillment of a promise. If God's children were to live in this attitude of looking for His return, there would be less sinning and more serving. If we knew Jesus Christ was returning tomorrow, would it change anything about the way we are currently living? Are there any relationships we would try and repair? Is there any unconfessed sin that needs to be confessed? For some, they would be left behind because they are not even saved.
Are you truly ready for His return?
