Our Scripture reading today is James 4:1-3.
Verse 2, "Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not."
Could it be the reason we are not receiving what we need is simply because we are not asking the One Who can provide it? We read the following from the Sermon on the Mount, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:" (Matthew 7:7) Prayer is asking. It may not be all there is to prayer, but it is a crucial part of it. “If you may have everything by asking, and nothing without asking, I beg you to see how absolutely vital prayer is, and I beseech you to abound in it… Do you know, brothers, what great things are to be had for the asking? Have you ever thought of it? Does it not stimulate you to pray fervently? All heaven lies before the grasp of the asking man; all the promises of God are rich and inexhaustible, and their fulfillment is to be had by prayer.” (Spurgeon)
As followers of Jesus Christ, we have the all supplying Source for everything we need just a prayer away. Jeremiah 33:3, "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not." By God's grace, let's do less complaining and more calling. Claim God's promise today, and ASK!
