Our Scripture reading today is John 14:16-18.
Verse 16, "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;"
Jesus Christ is referring to the third person in the Trinity, the Holy Ghost. While the Holy Ghost already existed, He did not yet indwell believers like He does today. Jesus says in this text that when He goes away, the Holy Ghost will come and be with us forever. In his human body, Jesus was not able to be with every believer at the same time. The Holy Ghost would come and would be given immediately to someone when they turned to Jesus Christ for salvation.
This promise is both encouraging and equipping. God's Spirit is with us and always will be until we go to Heaven. As we journey through the trials and troubles of life, we are truly never alone. In addition, we have in us the power needed to overcome every temptation the devil sends our way. The power is not ours, but it is the Spirit's power made available to us.
The Comforter has come and He seeks to guide us today! May we follow His leading every step of the way.
