Our Scripture reading today is Luke 4:25-27, "But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian."
The Lord Jesus makes it clear to the people of His hometown that God loves and is concerned about helping all people. The Jews of Nazareth must have overlooked these miracles from two of the greatest Old Testament prophets because the last group of people they would have helped would have been the Gentiles. God's miracle working power is often seen in the most inopportune time and place. When we least expected it and on whom we least expexted is often when God works.
A lesson we can take from the discussion Jesus had is to always be willing to serve and help anyone. A daily prayer request we ought to have is for people to see Jesus Christ in us and to be loved by Him through us. The love of God is for all people. This would include the ones we perceive to be unlovely.
