Our Scripture reading today is Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
It is natural to want to boast about our accomplishments. When much time and effort are spent on a project at work or school, we find some level of satisfaction when it is completed. As followers of Jesus Christ, we know that without Him we have no reason to boast. He is the all sufficient One! 2 Corinthians 3:5, "Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;"
We are reminded in Ephesians 2 that the salvation we have is a gift. As with all gifts, we can do nothing to earn salvation. It must be received by grace through faith. There isn't anything in us that is able enough to get saved or for that matter to stay saved. We are sinners saved by grace and living day to day by grace. God's plan of salvation allows no room for sinful man to boast about anything. He provided everything to allow sinners to be redeemed and given eternal life. All the glory belongs on Him!
