Our Scripture reading today is Luke 16:22-23, And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom."

We are reminded this morning that death comes calling to the rich and to the poor.  The beggar and the rich man both had an appointed time with death.  Wealth or a lack there of does not stop our physical lives from ending and our eternal destiny beginning.  Our eternal dwelling place will not be based on how much money or possessionds we acquired while we were in this body.  Like the rich man, we cannot buy our way into Heaven.  The end result of these two men is quite interesting.  The one with nothing died and was carried into the presence of God.  He now had everything!  The one with everything died and was buried into eternal judgment.  He now had nothing!

It is important that we live not just for today, but we must be living with a view of eternity.  Are we ready to die?  Have we confessed with our mouth and believed in our heart that Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven?  Have we received His gift of eternal life?  I might also add that once we are saved, we should be setting our sights on living for eternity.  We should give as much of this one life as we can to what matters for eternity.  Colossians 3:1-2, "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God."
