Our Scripture reading today is Luke 19:9-10.
Verse 10, "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost."
These two versus of Scripture follow the account of Jesus Christ going to the house of Zacchaeus. The people were shocked that Jesus would want to spend time with a rich, Publican who was a "sinner". I guess they just overlooked the sin that was in their heart and life. It is clear from the verse 8 of this chapter that Zacchaeus knew he was guilty. He was willing to pay back what he had stolen. Just because his sin was more public did not make it any greater than the sins of those who were murmuring. Jesus knew his heart was ready to repent and be saved.
Zacchaeus came to a place in his life where he knew he was guilty and needed forgiveness. He knew he needed Jesus Christ. Thankfully for him and all of God's family, Jesus came for wicked, hell deserving sinners. Luke 5:32, "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." If you are praying for a lost family member or friend, I would like to encourage you to pray that they too come to the same place that Zacchaeus did. It is impossible for someone to be saved who does not first recognize their own lost, sinful condition.
We can rejoice today that Jesus Christ is continuing to seek and to save lost sinners like you and me!
