Our Scripture reading today is James 3:17, "But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy."
There is no doubt that our homes, our church, and our world could use a heap more of mercy. Think of the mercy that God has extended to each of us. Mercy is not getting what we deserve. As sinners, we deserve death. Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death..." We do not deserve mercy, and yet God gives it to us over and over again.
It should be our prayer that we are extending mercy to one another. We need God's wisdom in order fulfill this task. If I want God to measure out mercy for me, I need to be willing to measure out mercy for others. Matthew 7:2, "For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again."
