Our Scripture reading today is Luke 2:33-35.
Verse 35, "(Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."
While there were untold blessings of being the mother of Jesus Christ, we see in our text today that there would also be burdens. Who else would have suffered more at His rejection than His own mother? She saw that all of His disciples were gone except John. She saw the affects of the Romans soldiers. She heard His last words and witnessed His last breath. Mary was there at His humble beginning and she was there at the cross.
It is a prayer of mine that I remain faithful in the joyful times and in the times of great suffering. The example of Mary is one of faithfulness. She is simply just there. By God's grace, we too, can be faithful. It does not take a college education to be faithful. It does take a surrender of our will for God's will. It does take dying to the flesh every day. As we are faithful to God's plan for our lives, we bring Him more glory and honour. Faithfulness is needed in every area of your life and mine.
Proverbs 28:20, "A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent."
