Our Scripture reading today is Philippians 3:8-10.
Verse 8, "Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,"
What would we be willing to lose in order that we might know more of Jesus Christ? Paul makes it clear that he is willing to consider everything a loss in order that he might know more of and win Christ. It does seem that when something or even someone is taken from us, we are compelled to draw closer to the Lord Jesus. The loneliness and emptiness can only be filled by a closer relationship with Him.
My encouragement to all of us today is don't wait for the sudden time of loss to read His Word and pray more. Don't wait for the doctor's telephone call with the news you did not want to hear. There is no better time than the present to stop allowing temporal things to get in the way of your relationship with your Saviour, Jesus Christ. Give Him the honour and praise He alone is worthy of!
