Our Scripture reading today is Colossians 2:7-8.
Verse 8, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."
The Apostle Paul gives a warning to the Christians in Colossae as well as each of us today. We should guard against following tradition over truth. Truth is anchored in the Word of God while tradition is from man. Tradition is rooted more in what man has come up with and truth is rooted in the Word of God. God's Word never changes. It will faithfully lead us to know and love God more. Tradition is ever changeable and it leads us to be a follower of man. The traditions of man are not to be considered as the final authority. We have been given clear direction for life in the pages of the Word of God.
