Our Scripture reading today is 1 Samuel 16:1, "And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons."

Samuel went from seeing the most qualified to be king to the least likely to be king.  Saul looked the part on the outside and David was a simple boy who looked after his father's sheep.  Saul followed his own way and it led to the kingdom being taken from him.  David obeyed his father, Jesse, and it led to God choosing him to be the next king of Israel.

We learn from this Bible story that the most qualified looking are not always the most qualified.  It is important that we follow God's instructions laid out for us in His Word.  Our obedience to Him will always lead to His blessings being poured out on us.  David obeyed the authority God had placed in his life and God blessed his obedience in an amazing way.  The blessings God gives us will be opportunities for us to bring Him glory.  It all starts with our obedience!
