Our Scripture reading today is James 4:1-3.
Verse 3, "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts."
We are challenged in these verses with the motive for how we are praying and what we are praying for. It is easy to become selfish even in our prayer time. The goal is to match our desires with God's will. This will be revealed in not only how we live, but in how we pray. Before we enter into a time of prayer, we must seek to die to anything we would want accomplished that is not a part of God's will. God's will being accomplished in and through us the most important prayer request we can offer.
Every child of God needs to pray more and pray more in the will of the Father. Prayer is not getting God to agree with what we have decided to do. Prayer is seeking to place what God wants in the forefront of my life and doing this each and every day. Take a look at your prayer list and see if some requests need to be reworded or quite possibly even removed.
