Our Scripture reading today is 1 Kings 19:5, "And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat."
The mercy of God is on display here in the life of Elijah. God provided for him physically by allowing him to rest and then gave him a miracle meal delivered by an angel. We can see the importance of taking care of ourselves by getting enough rest and physical nourishment. When our physical needs are not met, it only adds to the others needs we have in life.
“The spirit needs to be fed, and the body needs feeding also. Do not forget these matters; it may seem to some people that I ought not to mention such small things as food and rest, but these may be the very first elements in really helping a poor depressed servant of God.” (Spurgeon)
