Our Scripture reading today is 2 Timothy 1:9, "Who hath saved us and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began."
As we unpack this one verse of Scripture, we are reminded that our salvation is not in what we can do, but it is in the Person of Jesus Christ. If Heaven is your eternal home, it is because you have believed and received. A sinner must believe (Acts 16:31) that Jesus Christ is God's Son and that He died on the cross to pay the penalty for their sin. A sinner must also believe that Jesus Christ rose again from the dead. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) Finally, the lost sinner must receive God's gift of eternal life. (John 1:12)
The purpose for our salvation is not limited to us going to Heaven. God saved us to be His workmanship. (Ephesians 2:10) We were saved to bring God glory now. We were saved to be His ambassadors and much more. The Word of God will reveal His daily purpose for our lives. God always does what He does on and with purpose. It is not always easy to see or accept, but His purpose is always good. Be thankful today, we are part of His purpose!
