Our Scripture reading today is Luke 13:26-28.
Verse 28, "There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out."
The reality of those who died without turning to Jesus Christ for salvation can be seen in this verse of Scripture. They have been excluded from the Kingdom of God and will be in a place of torment for all eternity. Their exclusion was by their own choice. Just as those who made the choice to receive Jesus Christ as Saviour will be Heaven for all eternity. “The definite articles with ‘weeping’ and ‘gnashing’ (cf. Greek) emphasize the horror of the scene: the weeping and the gnashing... Weeping suggests suffering and gnashing of teeth despair.” (Carson)
We cannot and must not skip over the realities of Hell. As surely as there is a Heaven, there is a Hell. As sure as there a place free from sin, there is a place of torment. Whether someone believes there is a Hell, does not change the truth that there is a Hell. Luke 16:23, "And in hell he lift up his eyes , being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom." “There are some ministers who never mention anything about hell. I heard of a minister who once said to his congregation — ’If you do not love the Lord Jesus Christ you will be sent to that place which it is not polite to mention.’ He ought not to have been allowed to preach again, I am sure, if he could not use plain words.” (Spurgeon)
