Verse 1-2a, "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority;"
As followers of Jesus Christ, we have a responsibility to pray for those who are in authority over us. This would include but not be limited to political leaders. It matters not if we agree with them or disagree with them. We are to take their names before the throne of God in prayer. I must admit this isn't something I have done on a daily basis until recently. I would pray for the prime minister (Justin Trudeau) and premier (John Horgan) occasionally, but I have been challenged to complain less about them and pray more for them. There is still room for improvement in my interceding for these leaders of Canada.
Are these men, their spouse and children saved? This is the most important prayer request for anyone. Please join with me today in praying for our political leaders and their salvation as well as the salvation of their family. The challenge to Timothy is to make this a priority. He is to not only pray for them, but to pray for them, first. There is no doubt that we need to dedicate more time interceding on the behalf of those who are in authority over us.
