Our Scripture reading today is Luke 13:31-33.

Verse 32, "And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected."

There is not a bit of fear in the Lord Jesus towards Herod.  Jesus knew exactly when and where His work on earth would be finished.  The idea of calling someone a fox was to say he was a cunning but weak leader.  “To the Jew the fox was a symbol of three things. First it was regarded as the slyest of animals. Second, it was regarded as the most destructive of animals. Third, it was the symbol of a worthless and insignificant man.” (Barclay)

We are not to live our lives in the fear of man.  It is easier said than done.  However, it is more than possible when we die to self and allow the Holy Spirit to direct our paths.  I have been reading a 31-day devotional book that tells the stories of missionaries who seemingly feared no one but God.  Many of them died early in life and it might seem on paper like their life was wasted.  Their stories have challenged me to strive to live my life completely for the glory of God.  This can only take place when someone allows His Spirit to control our thoughts and actions.  Yield to the Spirit today!
