Our Scripture reading today is Joshua 24:14-15.
Verse 14, "Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD."
In order to be the servant of the Lord we should be, there must first be a putting away of any and all gods in our lives. The words, "put away", in our text mean to reject; to put aside. Could there possibly be someone or something that is more important to you than your relationship with God? More than likely the one god we all struggle the most with is SELF. We like to be in charge of ourselves. We like to be in control.
Even though thousands of years have passed, the words of Joshua in verse 15 of our text are a challenge for us today. I will add that we make a choice by not making a choice. If I am going to faithfully follow God's will for my life, it will require a putting away of the gods in my life (dying to self for one) and a choosing to serve Him no matter the cost. (marks of a true disciple).
God delivered us from our Egypt as well. It is time for us to put away and follow Him!
