Today's Scripture reading is Hebrews 12:27-29
Verse 28 - "let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably..."
Many times we have heard it said that God's grace isn't just for saving, it is also for living. In Ephesians 2:8, we read that grace is needed in order to be saved - "For by grace are ye saved..." It is impossible to be saved by our good deeds and intentions. As sinners, we need God's grace. Once we are saved, we still need God's grace in order to live the Christian life.
Hebrews 12:28 points out that God's grace is needed to serve Him. The word acceptably means in a manner well pleasing to one, acceptable. Our salvation enables us to serve the Lord. Ephesians 2:10 says, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." What a privilege we have to work for the King of Kings! What an honour is ours to serve God. God provides us with His grace so that we can serve Him acceptably.
Thank you, Father, for supplying us with your marvellous GRACE!
