Our Scripture reading today is 1 Peter 5:7, "Casting all your care on him; for he careth for you."
We come this morning to a very familiar verse of Scripture. It is often quoted in sermons and even on greeting cards. I have quoted it hundreds of times over the years and I don't even think that is an exaggeration. The cares of life were not meant to be carried alone. Our gracious heavenly Father desires to carry them for us. He is the ultimate burden bearer.
What I struggle with and maybe you do too is taking the cares back that have been cast on God. Once we cast the cares of life on Him, we need to leave them there. There is a beautiful hymn in our hymnbook that speaks to this. The refrain of the hymn says the following: Leave it there, leave it there, Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. If you trust and never doubt, He will surely bring you out, Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
I would like to encourage us all to cast our burdens on the Lord and also to leave them with the One Who can carry them with ease.
