Our Scripture reading today is 2 Timothy 4:1-4.
Verse 4, "And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."
There is no day like today. The past cannot be changed and the future is not in our control. Today is here and we have an opportunity to listen and learn from the truth. God's Word gives us examples to follow and avoid. The Apostle Paul writes to Timothy regarding those who will turn from the truth and believe a fable. They will no longer accept truth, but instead will believe a fable. The word, fable, is translated from the Greek word, mythos. A fable is something that is false or a myth. God's Word is neither false nor a myth!
The closer we stay to the truth the easier it is to distinguish something that is a fable. Every Christian needs to set aside time daily to open the Word of God and allow it to instruct us in how to live and not to live. The truth found in God's Word is liberating. It will set any individual free! John 8:31-32, "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." If you have yet to accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour, why not today?
Jesus Christ conversation with Pilate in John 18:37, "Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice."
