Today's Scripture reading is Romans 1:1-2.
Verse 1, "Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,"
This book of the Bible was written to Roman Christians and it is filled with doctrine. The focus is on the power of God and His plan of salvation. There is much to learn and practice from the book of Romans. We cannot overlook the title given to the author: "Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ." The word, servant, is translated from the Greek word, doulos. A doulos is someone who is "devoted to another to the disregard of one's own interests". The Apostle Paul gave up his will in order to do the will of his Saviour, Jesus Christ. This would mean Paul would strive to advance the cause of Christ among mankind. I believe he accomplished much for his Saviour.
How devoted are you at giving out the Gospel of God? How generous are you to giving of your wealth to those who are giving out the Gospel of God? Could our life be characterized as being a "servant of Jesus Christ"? Whether we are the pastor or helping the pastor, it must be the title we are aiming for each and every day. Our will should be set aside every morning and His will should be picked up. When this happens, we will be committed to the Gospel of God!
