Our Scripture reading today is Luke 19:37-40.
Verse 40 - "...the stones would immediately cry out."
This statement of the Lord Jesus has always been a challenge to me. Am I taking every opportunity I have to praise the Lord? Am I embarrassed or even critical of someone else at how they praise the Lord? In verse 37 we read that the disciples of Jesus were praising God with a "loud voice." This outward display of emotion did not sit well with the Pharisees. They expected Jesus to rebuke His disciples. I truly love Jesus' response to these self-righteous Pharisees. "And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out."
Several applications from these verses:
1. Jesus is STILL doing mighty works today! Be quick to praise Him.
2. There is nothing wrong with an outward display of emotion when praising God.
3. There is something wrong when we allow a spirit of self-righteousness to rule our lives.
4. Don't allow a rock to offer more praise than you offer!
