Our Scripture reading today is Matthew 5:11-12.
Verse 11, "Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake."
Jesus told His disciples to be happy when they were persecuted for His sake. It would not take long for them to be put to the test. Acts 5:41, " And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name." All of the disciples (except John and Judas) of Jesus would face death due to being identified with Jesus Christ.
As born-again believers we carry the name of Jesus Christ. It is not only our duty, but it should also be our delight to live for and honour Him. Men and women have given their lives for identifying with the Name that is above every name. Our brothers and sisters in Christ are facing great persecution even still today. I would like to encourage us to take some time today to pray for them. May God help us to use every opportunity we can to glorify His holy name.
