Our Scripture reading today is Matthew 23:11, "But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant."
These words of Jesus Christ go against what the majority of our world would say. The greatest should be the one with the most authority or power. The greatest should be the one with the most people serving him. Jesus tells us to be a servant is the greatest title. It doesn't get any better than this.
How do we serve and honour others? This is the definition of true greatness. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are not attempting to build our own kingdom. We are to focus on being humble, servants. This follows the pattern that He left for us. He had authority and yet He humbled Himself over and over again. When we serve others, we are more like the Master.
