Our Scripture reading today is Exodus 23:27-28.
Verse 27, "I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee."
A promise is given to the people of Israel that God would deliver them from the pagan nations of Canaan. He would use a supernatural fear as well as a natural source of His creation. As we discover in Scripture, God always keeps His promises. Joshua 2:11, "And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath." Joshua 24:12, "And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow."
We, too, are promised to have victory in our lives. 1 Corinthians 15:57, "But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." The enemies may not look the same as what Israel saw, but they are still there. As children of God, we should know that no foe is greater than Him. Romans 8:31, "What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:37, "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us."
It is our responsibility to claim the victories that God has already provided. We can trust Him to give us overcoming power.
