Our Scripture reading is Luke 20:1-2.
Verse 2, "And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?"
The religious leaders of Jesus day were very curious where Jesus got this authority to tell people to leave the temple. Especially since Jesus did not have any special training as a rabbi. This was definitely a controversial if not an adversarial time in Jesus ministry. Those who should have been with Him were against Him.
As Jesus spoke with authority, we too can speak in the same way. Our mission is deliver the most powerful message ever given. The Word of God is our authority. Hebrews 4:12, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. The authority we have is not in what we believe or say. It is in the inerrant Word of God!
