Our Scripture reading today is Luke 20:3-7.
Verse 7, "And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was."
There is no doubt in my mind that these religious leaders were very concerned about whether people liked them or not. It was as if they had an answer for every potential crowd that would be around them. They were people pleasers.
While it is not wrong to want to be liked; it is impossible to stand for truth and have everyone like you. At some point, truth will bring about some sort of division. Jesus brought division when He was in the ministry for just three years. John 7:43, "So there was a division among the people because of him." We cannot allow pleasing people to get in the way of faithfully following our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our goal is living every day with a goal of pleasing Him. 1 John 3:22, "And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight."
