Our Scripture reading today is Hebrews 6:9-12.
Verse 10, "For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister."
The new life we have in Jesus Christ will lead us to love and serve Him. When we received God's gift of salvation, we also were given a new name and family. Salvation and everything that came with it was by grace through faith. We did not earn eternal life.
We read in Ephesians 2:10, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." Our salvation was not only for the purpose of eternal life in Heaven. There should be a labour of love and good works. My service for the Lord flows from a heart of love for the Lord. It is our opportunity to bring Him honour and glory. 1 Corinthians 10:31, "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God."
This labour of love is to be administered to our fellow family members and especially those who attend the same church as we do. Verse 11 of Hebrews 6 makes it clear that this ministering to the saints is the responsibility of everyone. In what ways are you serving the Lord by serving your brothers and sisters in Christ?
