Our Scripture reading today is 2 Timothy 1:16-18.
Verse 18, "The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well."
The word, ministered, in verse 18 means to be a servant or attendant. It carries with it the idea of supplying one's necessities. Onesiphorus was someone who did that for the Apostle Paul and Paul never forgot about it. Even though the apostle was in prison, Onesiphorus continued to look after this servant of the Lord. In verse 17, Paul writes that it took some effort for him to locate him in Rome.
We learn from these few versus how important it is for us to be willing to minister to those around us and especially to those who are a part of God's family. The local church is a place where we can all serve our brothers and sisters in Christ. Let's not allow pride to get in the way. Pride wants to be served instead of serving. Our greatest example of service is the Lord Jesus. Matthew 20:28, "Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many."
May we all seek to follow His example today!
