Our Scripture reading today is Luke 5:9-11.
Verses 10-11, "And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him."
The Lord Jesus officially calls these fisherman to leave their profession and follow Him. They will no longer be fishing on water, but they will be fishing on land. Peter, James, and John were about to do what Jesus already doing. His example was worthy of following. "There was never a greater fisher of men than Jesus Himself, but He wanted others to do the work He did. Jesus started with these three, then twelve, then hundreds, then thousands, and millions upon through the centuries."
We have the privilege of not only being saved and going to Heaven, but also of being one Christ's followers. A follower will also be a fisherman. If I am following Jesus Christ, He will make me to be a fisher of men. Like these three men, there will need to be some forsaking. What is in our life that needs to be removed in order that we can be a faithful follower and fisher of men? It is likely that we will need to say no to someone or something which will allow us to say yes to Jesus.
