Our Scripture reading today is Luke 6:35-36.

Verse 35, "But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil."

We follow the example of our Saviour when it comes to loving our enemies.  It is impossible to love an enemy in the power of the flesh.  We must be filled with God's Spirit and emptied of self in order to good to someone who is our enemy.  It is easy to love someone who loves us in return.  True love is put to the test when we love those who have no plans of loving us in return.  God has continually showed us love even when we did not love Him.
