Our Scripture reading today is Luke 23:32-34.
Verse 34, "Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots."
The ultimate level of love and forgiveness was seen on display at Calvary. The sinless Son of God was put on trial and convicted for crimes He had not committed. He was beaten and mocked before being led to be crucified. The men on either side of Him were criminals who deserved some sort of punishment. Jesus was even willing to forgive them.
It is our responsibility to follow the Saviour's example of love and forgiveness. We are to love our enemies and do good to those who hate us. This task will not be fulfilled unless we are filled with the Spirit. There is no desire from our flesh to forgive someone who speaks or does something unkindly to us. We will need to rely on the Lord's help to offer such forgiveness. Remember, the sinless Saviour offers sinners like us forgiveness. Surely, we can forgive other sinners.
