Our Scripture reading today is John 8:34-36.
Verse 36, "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."
Sin will eventually bring bondage. It offers such excitement and pleasure, but sin can never deliver on these promises longterm. Hebrews 11:25, "Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;" Sin has pleasure but only for a short season.
Freedom is not found in a program, but freedom is found in a Person. The Lord Jesus is our resource for freedom from sin. A life lived in loyalty to Him will bring victory after victory. No man can offer us this type of freedom and victory. “So the slave of sin cannot by himself change his status. He cannot convert himself, nor can he be converted by any fellow-sinner… The liberator from our bondage must come from outside the ranks of enslaved humanity.” (Tasker)
