Our Scripture reading today is Luke 19:29-31.
Verse 31, "And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him."
Did the Lord really need a colt or a donkey to make His way through the city? Physically, He did not; but prophetically, He did! Zechariah 9:9, "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass." There were at least 12 major prophecies fulfilled at Jesus first coming. "Normally, animals such as donkeys (for the poor) and horses (for the wealthy) were made available by their owners for travelers for a price or, at times, to be borrowed." (Pate)
Our reading today encourages me with regards to the imminent return of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. He has fulfilled, but He will also fulfill many more prophecies. What He has promised, He WILL do! We can place our complete confidence in Him not just for what is to come, but for our daily needs. What He has promised, He WILL do!
