Our Scripture reading today is Ephesians 2:8-9.
Verse 8, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:"
A gift cannot be earned but it must be paid for. A gift is paid for and it must be received. John 1:12, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"
Salvation is a free gift to the sinner but it definitely cost something. It cost God the father and God the Son. The Lord Jesus died, was buried, and rose again. He shed His precious blood that all mankind might have the opportunity to receive the gift of salvation. Our salvation and eternal life cost Jesus everything. We are the beneficiaries of the greatest gift ever given.
