Our Scripture reading today is 1 Samuel 1:11, "And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head."
Hannah prayed a specific prayer and it was answered. She also made a couple promises. There is one that stands out in particular. Hannah promised to give her son to the LORD for his entire life. She is saying the child would not really belong to her and Elkanah. He would belong to the LORD.
The same should be said today of our children. They do not really belong to us. They belong to the LORD. Have you given your children to the LORD? It might look a little different from Hannah's day but the principle remains the same. As parents, we are to be faithful stewards. Our children should know we love the LORD by how we strive to obey His Word and yield to His will. Today, is a good day to start giving our children to the LORD by faithfully setting a Godly example for them.
