Today’s Scripture reading is 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.
Verse 20 - "For ye are bought with a price."
These verses and specifically verse 20 take us back to the preaching text from Sunday. The free gift of eternal life did not come cheaply. It came with a high price. Revelation 5:9, "And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;" We have peace with God today because of the price Jesus Christ willingly paid. (1 Corinthians 15:3)
The remainder of verse 20 is a challenge that many Christians are not heeding. Too many Christians are living as they choose and not for the One Who purchased them. They want eternal life, but their life on earth is under their control. It comes down to being a follower of Jesus Christ or a disciple of Jesus Christ. A disciple recognizes the price that Jesus paid and is willing to live for Him. A disciple recognizes that his or her life belongs to the Lord.
