Our Scripture reading today is Luke 20:29-33.
Verse 33, "Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife."
The whole purpose of this story told by the Sadducees was to try and discredit the teaching of the resurrection. It was strictly a hypothetical question, and it reminded me of what Paul wrote in Titus 3:9, "But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain."
While there is nothing wrong with asking questions, I do believe it is important that we consider our questions in light of the Word of God. Are we asking questions or are we questioning the Word of God? The Sadducees were choosing to set aside the teachings of Scripture for their own personal agenda. At no time should my agenda or feelings take on more importance than the inspired and infallible Word of God!
