Our Scripture reading today is 1 Samuel 16:7, "But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart."
I am not sure why, but this verse has come to mind several times in recent days. The part of the verse that I have been meditating on is the fact that the outward appearance is looked at by men. Yes, the heart of the matter is a matter of the heart. However, we cannot completely toss aside the truth that those around us are looking at our outside to determine many things about us and our faith.
It is very important that we seek the Spirit's help every day. We need to be filled with the Spirit of God in order to have our outside looking and sounding like a disciple of Jesus Christ. The outside of the believer is the "billboard" to the lost and hell bound world. We might just need to take a look in the mirror of God's Word and see what needs to be cleaned up.
