Our Scripture reading today is Exodus 32:4-5.

Verse 4, "And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt."

Mankind was created with the need to worship.  It is written on our hearts the knowledge that there is a God.  Unfortunately, Aaron led the children of Israel to worship a statue of calf made of gold.  As if the golden calf delivered them from hundreds of years of bondage.  The calf did not exist when they were delivered from Egypt.  This verse always brings me to a halt.  How is the world could they do this?

Honestly, we can all find ourselves in a similar way of worship.  The word "worship" means to give worth to.  When we give something or someone more worth than God, we are no different than the children of Israel bowing down to a calf of gold.  Christian idolatry is a serious problem that we must repent of and get right with God.  He alone is worthy of our worship.
